Product Review: The Konjac Sponge

I thought this product was going to be great. I was really excited when I purchased it to go home and try it out. The Konjac Sponges for face and body from Konjac Australia are made of 100% natural vegetable fibre and gently cleanse and exfoliate the skin. First gold star awarded: It is an all natural product it is biodegradable which is good for the environment. Yay!

The Konjac Sponge has been used by the Japanese for over 1500 years for its beauty and health properties. The plant fibre is extremely rich in moisture and alkaline gently cleanses skin and helps balance acidity and impurities in the skin. The lady who sold them to me assured me that they would leave my skin brighter and more nourished, and there was no need for any other cleansers or exfoliants.

So I bought 3; One green body-sponge and 2 face sponges; purple which has lavender properties and is supposed to be calming for my sensitive and exzema-prone skin, and an orange 'Lycopene' sponge which is rich in anti-oxidents.

But... alas it was too good to be true it seemed. Upon my first use of my body sponge in the shower, my Konjac sponge fell apart hopelessly, despite the seller telling me that it would last at least 6 months. It seemed rotten and frail and it just crumbled up and corroded in my hands. This made me sad, and annoyed... I had just cleaned the shower and now I had little green freckles everywhere! But I thought, I will still try and use the remains to see how it benefited my skin. But it did nothing. I didn't feel smoother or brighter or cleaner, I just felt slimy and smelly.

Then I was hesitant to try the face ones. But I was still really hopeful. Especially since they were not cheap little buggers. And again, the face sponges were also a let-down. They didn't fall apart, but I didn't feel they effectively cleaned my face, nor renew the top layer of skin. And they made my eyes really itchy.

It really disheartens me to write a bad review, but I promised myself that when I wrote this blog I would be honest, and tell my readers what I really thought. I want to be a trusted source for fashion and beauty tips, reviews, etc and I will not "sell-out" and give good reviews just because they are asked of me.

I'm sincerely sorry that these products didn't work. In theory they are excellent cleansers full of good nutrients for the skin. Maybe I will try another brand. Have you tried a Konjac sponge before? How did you find it? I'd love to hear from you if you have had a good experience!

Bye for now lovelies! xxx
